Kinloch Manor and The Kinloch Club Website Post June 2025

Celebrating Character, Craft and 18 Years of Commitment

Set high above Lake Taupō, with views stretching across rolling fairways to distant volcanic mountains, Kinloch Manor & Villas offers a refined lodge experience of bold luxury. Alongside it, The Kinloch Club, New Zealand’s only Jack Nicklaus Signature Championship Course draws golfers from around the world to test their skill on a course that is both beautiful and challenging.

But what truly defines a destination like Kinloch isn’t only superb architecture (long term admirers here!), estate-to-plate cuisine or infamous golf course design.

It’s the people.

Building Brand Through Story: Celebrating Tom Long

As part of our ongoing content strategy, Tanker Creative developed a website feature post celebrating Tom Long and his remarkable 18-year tenure at The Kinloch Club.

Rather than focusing solely on services or offers, or the massive opportunity for some dreadful puns, this piece built character around the long-term commitment and deep institutional knowledge that quietly underpin a world-class experience.

By spotlighting Tom’s long game—both professionally and metaphorically—we reinforced Kinloch’s brand values of expertise and hospitality.

Working Within the Platform: Strategic Text-Based CTAs

The website functionality allowed for text-based links only, so we used these for our calls-to-action. Contextual links guided readers to learn more about Kinloch Manor or The Kinloch Club (the post was used on both websites), and to book a tee time, ensuring a funnel leading to conversion was offered.

These internal links also support increased the opportunity to spend more time on site and strengthened the site’s internal linking architecture, contributing to improved crawlability and search performance. Win-wins!

Extending the Story Across Social Channels

The article didn’t exist in isolation. It formed part of a broader content ecosystem that extended across LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram, with each platform carrying tailored messaging while driving audiences back to the website feature.

This created a powerful loop: social engagement generated website traffic, website visits enabled retargeting, and retargeting reinforced brand recall and conversion opportunities. The result was significant positive engagement (LinkedIn in particular loved it), genuine community affirmation and a strengthening of Kinloch’s brand narrative.

Stories like this resonate because they feel authentic, human and truly unique. They elevate personal connections rather than simply promoting product.

Regular Flow Matters: SEO, AI Visibility & Brand Authority

Frequent website updates are foundational to modern digital visibility. Fresh, relevant content signals to search engines that a website is active, authoritative and interesting! Strategic internal linking structures strengthen topic relevance and page relationships.

As AI-powered search becomes more prevalent, well-structured, high-quality content also supports what is increasingly referred to as AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) or AI search visibility. Meaningful, human-centred storytelling helps ensure brands are surfaced in AI-generated summaries and conversational search results.

Driving traffic from external platforms back to owned media is equally strategic. It enables tasty options for pixel tracking, audience segmentation and behaviour-based retargeting campaigns, while simultaneously deepening audience engagement within a brand-controlled environment.

Ultimately, while offers may convert in the short term, stories build enduring brand equity. Team features, milestone celebrations and behind-the-scenes narratives create trust, depth and emotional resonance that compound over time.

Play Your Own Long Game

At Tanker Creative, we bring together content strategies to create connected, conversion-focused ecosystems. That’s a bottom line right there.

If you’re looking to strengthen your digital presence through strategic content development that integrates SEO, AI visibility, retargeting infrastructure and meaningful brand storytelling, let’s talk.

Tom’s Long Game—18 Years Staying On Course

his year marked a significant milestone at The Kinloch Club as we proudly celebrated Tom Long completing 18 years of service. As the Director of Golf and Head PGA Professional, Tom has been an integral figure at Kinloch since the club’s opening day in 2007—and he’s been shaping its spirit ever since.

A Global Journey, Rooted in Kinloch

Before making Kinloch his home, Tom built an impressive career blending competitive play across Europe with PGA professional positions in some of the world’s most iconic golfing destinations. However, it’s here in the heart of New Zealand where he’s truly left his mark.

Tom, with his signature self-deprecating charm, refers to himself as a “Piwi”—once a Pom, now proudly Kiwi. It’s an identity that encapsulates his blend of British humour and Kiwi warmth—one that’s endeared him to guests and colleagues alike.

The Face and Heart of The Kinloch Club

Ask many who’ve played a round at Kinloch and they’ll tell you: Tom is The Kinloch Club. Often referred to affectionately as “Mr. Kinloch”, Tom is omnipresent—from the first warm welcome in the pro shop to the final laugh shared over a post-round drink. His commitment to hospitality and his ability to make every visitor feel at home is part of what makes Kinloch such a special experience.

Behind the scenes, Tom has helped shape Kinloch into one of New Zealand’s premier golf destinations. His work has been pivotal in maintaining the club’s standards of excellence and ensuring the guest experience reflects the high calibre of Jack Nicklaus’s signature design.

Maestro of the Pre-Round Pep Talk

A Tom Long tradition beloved by many is his renowned pre-round briefing. More than just a rundown of yardages and wind directions, Tom’s talks are equal parts tactical guidance and entertainment. With sharp wit, encyclopaedic course knowledge, and a few well-timed jokes, he preps players to take on the formidable layout with confidence—and a smile.

Even after delivering thousands of these briefings over the years, Tom still brings p energy and enthusiasm to every single one. It’s a small detail, but one that exemplifies his consistent dedication.

Still a Force on the Fairways?

While Tom may cheekily claim that “his best playing days are behind him”, his track record tells a different story. His personal bests at Kinloch remain impressive:

  • 65 (-7) from the Black Championship Tees
  • 63 (-9) from the Blue Tees
  • 74 (+2) from the Blue Tees using only a six iron—yes, really, no other clubs and no gimmes!

Though he’s more likely now to be seen fine-tuning others’ swings than chasing his own personal best, Tom’s deep golf intelligence continues to inspire both guests and team members alike.

A Legacy of Leadership

As The Kinloch Club continues to grow and evolve, Tom’s influence remains a constant thread. His leadership, mentorship, and unwavering passion for the game have helped shape the club’s culture and elevate the guest experience year after year.

For those who’ve had the pleasure of meeting Tom, the memory often lingers far beyond the 18th hole—whether it’s a swing tip that unlocked a personal best, a shared laugh in the clubhouse, or simply a warm welcome on a chilly morning.

To Tom, from all of us: thank you for 18 unforgettable years of excellence, humour, and heart. We raise our glasses to you and look forward to many more rounds ahead.
